Nakawa International Flag Football Championship

Uganda Vs Kenya

The Nakawa International Flag Football Championship 2026 was successfully held on 11th April 2026 at Lubiri High School, bringing together young athletes from Uganda and Kenya under the internationally recognized framework of the International Flag League (IFLAG).

The championship featured exciting Under-15 boys and girls categories, showcasing emerging talent, discipline, and sportsmanship in flag football. Representing Uganda was Lubiri High School Mengo, while Kenya was represented by City Rose Academy.

In a highly competitive boys’ match, Uganda secured a narrow but well-earned victory over Kenya, finishing 14–12 in a thrilling encounter that kept spectators engaged until the final whistle. The Ugandan boys demonstrated strong teamwork, tactical awareness, and resilience under pressure.

The girls’ match equally highlighted the growing strength of women’s participation in the sport. Uganda delivered a confident performance, winning 6–0 against their Kenyan counterparts. The match reflected excellent defensive organization and determination from both teams, with Uganda capitalizing on key opportunities.

This championship marked an important milestone in the growth of flag football in East Africa, promoting youth development, cross-border collaboration, and international sporting standards. Organized by the Nakawa American Football Association (NAFA), the event continues to serve as a platform for nurturing young talent and building the future of American football in the region.

As the sport continues to expand, NAFA is actively seeking partners and sponsors to support future editions of the championship. Collaboration opportunities exist in youth development programs, event sponsorship, branding, and international exchange initiatives.

We invite organizations, institutions, and stakeholders to join us in building champions and inspiring communities through flag football.

NAFA Mission Statement

The Nakawa American Football Association (NAFA) is committed to developing and promoting American football in Uganda by creating inclusive opportunities for youth and communities to participate, compete, and grow through sport.

Our mission is to build a sustainable and structured American football ecosystem by organizing leagues, championships, and grassroots programs that nurture talent, instill discipline, and promote teamwork, leadership, and integrity.

Through initiatives such as flag football development, school partnerships, and international competitions, NAFA strives to provide a safe, accessible, and competitive platform for both boys and girls to discover and excel in the sport.

We aim to elevate the standard of American football in Uganda by aligning with international bodies like the International Flag League (IFLAG), ensuring global competitiveness and exposure for our athletes.

NAFA is dedicated to empowering young people through sport, fostering community engagement, and building pathways for athletes to reach regional and international levels.

Ultimately, our mission is to build champions, inspire communities, and position Uganda as a growing force in American football on the global stage.

Uganda Vs Kenya Highlights on Nakawa International Flag Football by 11th of April 2026

What makes the Nakawa American Football Association (NAFA) especially interesting is that it’s not just running sports events—it’s building an entirely new sports culture from the ground up in a place where American football has traditionally had little presence.

Instead of waiting for infrastructure or popularity to exist, NAFA is actively creating both. By introducing flag football in schools, organizing international competitions, and aligning with bodies like the International Flag League (IFLAG), the organization is turning a niche sport into a structured pathway for youth development.

Another standout aspect is its dual focus on sport and social impact. NAFA uses football not just for competition, but as a tool to teach discipline, leadership, teamwork, and confidence—skills that extend far beyond the field. That makes it as much a youth development initiative as it is a sports organization.

Perhaps most compelling is its international vision. By bringing teams from different countries together through events like the NIFF Championship, NAFA is positioning Uganda as an emerging hub for flag football in East Africa. That kind of ambition, paired with grassroots execution, is what turns a small organization into a movement.

In short, NAFA isn’t just growing a sport—it’s creating opportunities, shaping futures, and putting Uganda on the map in American football.
